10 places in Tuapse district
to visit

#Tuapse
If you are relaxing in one of the resort villages of the Tuapse district in summer, then most likely you are attracted by the sea beaches. Local tourist centers are famous exactly for them. However, in addition to the beaches in this area, there some other are places that should be visited.
1
Embankment
and port of Tuapse
Tuapse itself is not a resort. The seaport is located here - one of the largest and busiest on the Black Sea coast. However, the port itself can also be considered a wonderful attraction. After all, not every day the average citizen of Russia sees large sea vessels and port cranes. The port was founded in 1898 and today it is engaged in the acceptance and dispatch of large dry cargo ships (mainly fertilizers, grain and vegetables), oil transportation and passenger transportation. Vessels from 36 countries arrive at the port and moor at 19 berths. The harbor stretches for 3.2 km along the coast.

The attention of the city's guests is attracted by the control tower of the port. It is located in the central city square and is clearly visible from many parts of the city. The tower's design is quite futuristic: a tall hexagonal pillar topped with a large glass ball. A clock showing time and temperature is located at the top.

There is a walking area near the port along the sea. The embankment overlooks the ships, docks, control tower and the seaside. The promenade is decorated with several predominantly military-themed monuments and a fountain. There are small street cafes, children's attractions, and excursion boat docks.

Museums
There are several interesting museums in the city. The Museum of History and Local Lore named after N.G. Poletaeva is recommended to lovers of history. Here is a large collection of exhibits that are related to the history and nature of the Western Caucasus, stages of development of the Tuapse district. The museum is also known for its rich collection of Caucasian weapons.

You can continue the excursion at the Tuapse Defense Museum. It is dedicated to the dramatic period of the Great Patriotic War - the Tuapse defensive operation of the Soviet troops, which lasted from August 10 to November 25, 1942. It was during this operation that the advance of the Nazi troops in the North Caucasus was stopped. In memory of this Tuapse bears the title of a city of military glory. The museum displays weapons found by search groups, photographs, military awards, and diarammas reflecting the everyday life of the city during the war.

Another interesting museum is dedicated to the artist Alexander Kiselev. The famous itinerant, a graduate of the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts, was connected with Tuapse by chance.

Once, getting by sea from Novorossiysk to Tuapse, he saw an amazingly beautiful rock in the vicinity of the city. Fascinated by the view, he decided to settle here and in 1902 built a house in the outskirts of the city.

He lived in St. Petersburg all the year, and in summer he came with his family to the sea and painted local landscapes. The most famous of which are associated with the very beautiful rock that the artist liked so much. Maxim Gorky, Ivan Aivazovsky, Alexander Serafimovich and other celebrities of the early 20th century used to come to Kiselev's dacha. Now the rock is named after Kiselev, and the artist himself is considered almost the most famous Tuapse citizen.

Cape Kadosh
and Kiselev Rock
Why not, after visiting the museum of the famous artist, go to the Kisleev rock itself - this is one of the most popular natural attractions in Tuapse.

By the way, the ancient Circassians called it "the rock of tears", a legend about unhappy love is associated with it. It is located four kilometers from Tuapse between Cape Kadosh and the mouth of the Agoy River. The rock is 43 meters high and consists of rhythmically alternating thin layers of marls and sandstones, which give it such an unusual appearance.

By the way, the beauty of this place attracted not only Kiselev. It was here that Leonid Gaidai filmed a fishing scene for the film "The Diamond Arm". In the frames behind Nikulin and Mironov, you can clearly see the recognizable silhouette and "stripes" of the rock.

Getting to the cliff is not easy. You can get to the top by car along a forest road. But to visit the foot of the rock you have to have a walk. It is also possible to get to the rock from Tuapse along the seashore to the north-west, but it is more convenient to move from the village of Agoy. In some places, wild beaches are difficult to pass and you will have to move knee-deep in water. On the way, you will come across caves up to 10 meters deep, which are popularly called "mouse holes". From the foot of the cliff, a trail leads to its top, and from there – there is a descent to a wild beach, where there are few people even in summer.

These huge stone structures were built by people who lived in the copper and bronze age. They are found in almost all European countries, most often they resemble huts, built of large sandstone slabs weighing several tons each. There is a hole in the front wall.

Most scientists believe that dolmens were used for burial, but not everyone agrees with this. Therefore, disputes over their purpose are still ongoing. In the meantime, scientists have not come to a consensus, you can give free rein to fantasy. They are called "places of power", portals to other worlds, "speakers" through which you can hear the music of the Universe - in a word, there are a lot of exotic and mystical versions.

About a hundred dolmens were found on the territory of Tuapse district. Two of them, by the way, are located in the Kiselev Rock area. One of them is unique: it is carved into a whole boulder. Dolmens are also located in the valleys of the Nechepsukho and Dzhubga rivers and in many other places. The largest dolmen in Tuapse district is considered to be a dolmen located six kilometers away from the city, not far from the village of Kamenny Karyer.
