Mud volcanoes, thermal springs, hydrogen sulfide baths and other ways to healthfully
swim in the resorts of Krasnodar region
Even the contemporaries of Archimedes knew that a body immersed in a liquid is acted upon not only by the buoyant forces, but also by the salts contained there. Healing mud, water from mineral and thermal springs - all these gifts of nature are known and used by people to improve health since ancient times. In Krasnodar region, these natural resources are available in large quantities. Where to swim for health benefits regardless of the season - now we'll tell you.
Mineral water

There are four dozens of mineral water deposits in Krasnodar region. The closest balneological resort to the Kuban capital is Goryachy Klyuch. There are seven production wells there with hydrogen sulfide, chloride-hydrocarbonate, sodium, salt-alkaline and iodine-bromine waters. Bathing in those springs is indicated for asthmatics, allergy sufferers, patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and the reproductive system. If you not only take mineral baths, but also drink such water, you can improve the condition of the cardiovascular system, skin and digestive organs.

Two wells of mineral waters were opened in Labinsk district. One of them has water composition that is very close to the one, for which sufferers go to the famous German resort of Baden-Baden. Rest "on the waters" in Labinsk district is indicated for many diseases. The specialization of local sanatoria is the treatment of osteochondrosis, osteoporosis, arthritis, pyelonephritis, and prostatitis.

At any time of the year, you can swim in the open thermal pools in Mostovsky district: the water in them reaches + 40-50 degrees even in winter. The pools are equipped with waterfalls, underwater massage chairs, hydromassage guns, targeted water jets, and many other water treatment devices.

The largest and most famous balneo resort in the region is, of course, Sochi with its unique deposit of Matsesta mineral waters. Sanatoria and recreation centers in the area of the famous Matsesta successfully treat almost fifteen hundred ailments.

Therapeutic mud

In the old days, august persons, secular beauties, legendary personalities like Tamerlane, who "took medicinal baths and warmed his feet with magic mud", did not disdain mud baths. In Krasnodar region, on the territory from Anapa to Temryuk, there are more than 40 mud volcanoes known since antiquity. Some of them are still active and are of great value as sources rich in iodine, bromine and other beneficial substances. It is successfully used both for cosmetic purposes and for the treatment of many chronic diseases, not only in Russia, but also abroad: Taman therapeutic mud has been exported for many years.

The largest mud volcano in Krasnodar region is Shugo. Its medicinal mud is used in sanatoria, but many tourists prefer to take baths right at the source - the area is properly landscaped for swimming.

A beautiful beach with a recreation area, a playground, a cafe and a mini-zoo is also arranged near the Tizdar mud volcano. A large crater filled with a bluish mass is not very picturesque, but the local mud has a rich mineral composition with a proven therapeutic effect on the human body.

On Pekla Cape in Kuchugury you can take therapeutic mud baths overlooking the sea. From the top of a mud volcano near the village of Akhtanizovskaya it is convenient to admire both the sea distance and the firth: this 67-meter hill is one of the highest places on Taman, thanks to which it also serves as an observation deck.

Salt lakes

In Krasnodar region there are mineral lakes with water of varying degrees of salinity. Some of them are quite picturesque. The Gladkovskiye Sopki is called the Kuban Valley of Geysers, where volcanic mud breaks through the aquifer, creating small bubbling lakes with salty healing water.

The water is also very salty in the large Khanskoye Lake, located near Yeisk. The mineral mud of this reservoir contains magnesium, potassium, sulfates, hydrocarbonates and has beneficial properties. A hundred years ago, there was even a hospital on the lake, where they practiced bathing the sick and wounded in mineral mud. Now the mud of Khanskoye Lake in its composition similar to that extracted one out of the Dead Sea in Israel, is used in the sanatoria of Yeisk and Krasnodar: they treat diseases of skin, musculoskeletal system, nervous and cardiovascular systems. You can also swim in the lake itself - it is spacious, but not deep.

Another notable reservoir of this kind is Solyonoye Lake in Temryuk district, near Veselovka. It is very small and completely dries up by autumn, covered with a crust of salt, under which there is a healing substance - highly mineralized and very thick. To take a mud bath in the lake, you should dig small pits on the surface of the reservoir and fill them with brought water. You can take the procedure either this way, or in the sanatoria of Anapa and Gelendzhik: it is problematic to take the medicinal mud with you, since it quickly oxidizes in the air. The therapeutic mud of the Solyonoye Lake contains a large amount of bromine, iodine, hydrogen sulfide and has practically no unwanted impurities. In sanatoria, the mud solution is used to treat diseases of the skin, musculoskeletal system, central nervous system, internal organs, and reproductive system.
