Most of the borders of Temryuk district of Krasnodar region, which occupies the entire territory of the Taman Peninsula and partly the Kuban delta, is the coastline: in the southwest - the Black Sea, in the north - the Azov Strait, in the west - the Kerch Strait. Of the 250 kilometers of the district's coastline, 220 kilometers are sandy beaches.

Crimean Bridge

The Crimean Bridge connected the Kerch and Taman peninsulas through the Tuzla Island and the Tuzla Spit. You can admire it from the coast of the village of Taman, as well as by driving across the bridge in person.

The length of the structure is 19 kilometers, it is the longest bridge ever built in Russia, and it is also the longest in Europe. It consists of two parallel bridges: one for cars, the other for railway.

The construction of the bridge began in 2015 and was completed by December 2018 (highway) and by December 2019 (railway).

The Crimean Bridge is part of an ambitious project to create road infrastructure for Krasnodar region and Crimea: together with the bridge on the Taman Peninsula, a new 40-kilometer four-lane highway has been built from the federal highway A-290 to the bridge, and on the other side the bridge connects a new one with the Tavrida highway section of the road with a length of 8.6 kilometers.

During the construction of the bridge in Taman and the surrounding area, archaeologists did a great job: the project made it possible to excavate an area of 56 hectares, on which a million different historical finds were discovered. Some of them were donated to the local museum.

Archaeological Museum

The Taman Archaeological Museum consists of three parts, the largest of which is the Hermonassa-Tmutarakan open-air museum and archaeological complex. Although it occupies a large area of 3.6 hectares, it is only 10% of the true size of the settlement. The remaining 90% remain inaccessible even to archaeologists, because they are located under the buildings of modern Taman. Here you can see the ancient streets and the remains of buildings from different eras.

The Taman Archaeological Museum itself consists of two exhibition halls, where the exhibits are presented in reverse chronological order - from the upper cultural layers to the lower ones.

They begin with items of Cossack life dating from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 20th centuries, followed by finds from the Tatar and Turkish periods - 15th-18th centuries, Genoese - from the 14th-15th centuries, a few artifacts of Old Russian - from the 10th-12th centuries, and further - the earliest objects of material culture of the times of the Bosporus Kingdom and the beginning of colonization, when Hermonassa was created and rose.

Regardless of the historical era, the finds are represented by amulets and cult objects, tools, jewelry, weapons, utensils and other elements of the life of their ancestors.

In a separate pavilion there is an exposition dedicated to the stay of the poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov in Taman.

The museum is located in the center of the village, surrounded by three squares at once – Memory Sqaure, Square after A.A. Golovaty and Square after M.Yu. Lermontov. And also nearby there is the Cossack Museum, monuments to the First Cossacks-settlers and the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident, the Great Patriotic War Memorial and the Turkish Fountain.

Travel back in time in this extraordinary open-air museum complex. Real Cossack huts-huts and farmsteads occupy an area of 60 hectares on the shores of the Taman Bay of the Black Sea in the village of Taman. All the exhibits of the museum, collected in the villages of the region, demonstrate the way of life of Cossack families in the 18th – 20th centuries.

Ethnographic complex "Ataman" consists of several streets of the Cossack village, where each courtyard represents a separate position, specialty or craft: potter, shoemaker, barber, huts of ordinary Cossacks, chieftain, headman. A fabulous house on chicken legs with all the attributes of Baba Yaga is allocated to a separate settlement, there are many playgrounds, aviaries with poultry and animals. On the territory of "Ataman" there is a real fairground where you can buy souvenirs, as well as cafes and eateries, where you should dine and relax.

In the museum, you can study not only the traditions and customs of ancestors, but also plunge into the atmosphere of a holiday, good mood and free Cossack songs. Each of the huts is assigned to a separate area of the region, and on holidays the best folk groups come here from the villages and farms of Kuban. During such festivals, traditional Kuban dishes are tasted, ancient rituals and unique master classes are held.
Solyonoye Lake

What, apart from beaches, surfing and fishing in Kiziltash, is the village of Veselovka interesting for? It has the Solyonoye Lake, which has medicinal properties.

Solyonoye Lake is located in the south of the Taman Peninsula, between the Bugaz Firth and Zhelezny Rog Cape. The dimensions of the lake are 1.5 by 1 kilometer, and the depth reaches about 30 centimeters. Its mud solution belongs to chloride magnesium-sodium, highly sulfide highly mineralized type. Solyonoye Lake mud has a high salinity and concentration of bromine, and also contains iodine and hydrogen sulfide.

This shallow lake is separated from the Black Sea by a sandy barrage. Therefore, lovers of therapeutic mud, after being thoroughly smeared in it, wash it off in sea water after a while.

Due to intensive evaporation, by the end of summer the lake dries up completely and is covered with a thin salt crust. In autumn and winter, the lake is more full-flowing, it is filled with water due to rain, as well as due to sea water, which overflows from the Black Sea during storms.

There are more than 30 mud volcanoes on the Taman Peninsula, of which the active volcano Shugo, Kuchugury, Gostagayskie, Gnilaya, Karabetova, Azovskaya, Gladkovskaya, Kurchanskaya and partially Semigorskaya. Taman muds are alkaline peloids with excellent mineral composition. In such a solution, the concentration of iodine and bromine is increased.

Here you can see the rarest Indian pink lotus listed in the Red Book. The diameter of its flowers can reach 15 centimeters, while the petals have a pleasant pink tint. Lotuses bloom in this area from July to the end of August, but often all their beauty can be found even in early September. During this period, the fragrant air of the valley gives travelers positive emotions and a sense of peace.

The Lotus Valley is a place where you can walk by motor boat or motor ship. The first option is suitable for independent travel (in this case, exploring the local beauty of nature will take you no more than 15 minutes). However, it is much better to book an excursion, which provides for a long boat trip (about 40 minutes), while the ship has everything you need for a comfortable pastime of tourists. War Hill Museum

The War Hill Museum of Military Equipment is located on a hill formed by the extinct mud volcano Miska and is one of the largest collections of military equipment in southern Russia.

The history of the museum's exhibits began with the decommissioned Su208-79 steam locomotive, which stood in a dead end at the Starotitarovka station. It was decided to deliver it to Mount Miska, where by that time the T-34-85 tank, installed in 1965, was already standing on a pedestal.

Now the exposition on a large space contains combat vehicles of all types and types of troops: land (tanks, armored vehicles, cannons), sea (boats, torpedoes, mines), air (An-24 transport aircraft, fighters), railway (Su208-79 steam locomotive with a war car).

Among the techniques stand out sculptural compositions: "We won", "Hurray, for the Motherland!" and "Explosion".

In the eastern part of the museum territory there is a building where photographs, documents, propaganda posters, maps, personal belongings of soldiers and commanders of the Red Army are exhibited.

Above the exposition there is a monument (T-34-85 tank on a pedestal), erected in 1965 and dedicated to the liberation of Temryuk from German invaders.

In the acquisition of military equipment, special assistance was provided by the former commander of the Azov military flotilla, at that time the commander-in-chief of the USSR Navy, Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR, Admiral Sergei Georgievich Gorshkov.

The word "Cossack" is associated primarily with military prowess, songs and a colorful way of life. You can get to know all this better by visiting the interesting Museum of Cossack Life in the village of Starotitarovskaya.

There are four halls in the museum, two of which are directly devoted to the history of the Kuban Cossacks and their life, and the other two are occupied by exhibitions entitled "War and Fate" and "I was born in the Kuban village." The building itself, which houses the museum, can also be safely called an "exhibit" - the date of its construction is 1898.

You can explore the museum on your own, suddenly descending into the old village, or you can inform about your arrival and order have an interesting excursion: then the guests will take part in the action "Cossacks: customs and rituals".

Agritourism is very developed in Temryuk district: 74% of the vineyards of Krasnodar region are located on the Taman Peninsula, there are 14 wineries here, and more than eighty brands of wine are produced.
