Dzhankhot

The historian Fyodor Andreevich Shcherbina, who settled in the gorge of the Hotetsai River with his family, founded the village of Dzhankhot in 1870 as a summer cottage settlement. Many years of Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko’s lifetime are associated with this place. The writer's estate in Dzhankhot was built in 1901–1902 according to the drafts and drawings of the writer himself and with his personal participation in the construction. Now this amazing and beautiful house has been restored and functions as an architectural, memorial and natural complex, the only literary museum of the writer in Russia. Here his collection of books is gathered, works and drawings are presented. The house-museum is located in a picturesque gorge with access to the open sea, on the slope of Mount St. Nina, among a century-old forest of relict Pitsunda pines.
