Apsheronsk Museum of History and Local Lore

Апшеронский историко-краеведческий музей

The history of the Apsheronsk Museum begins in the late 60s. The dynamic development of the museum continued until the early 90s. During the state changes, the funds were transferred to the regional Cossack society and placed in 4 halls of the former ataman administration. Only in 2003 a reconstructed building was allocated to the museum. This year is the year the museum was founded.

Collections of military subjects, archeology, paleontology, the history of the formation of the Cossacks and the life of settlers, the history of the development of the region are of great interest to visitors. The historical and cultural specifics of the region allow to accumulate completely different directions in the museum funds.

The territory of the region belongs to the complex border lands. In all historical epochs, the Caucasus ridge was a natural border of ethnic formations, a border between local cultures, starting from the earliest periods of the formation of ethnic groups. One of the Caucasian branches of the Great Silk Road ran through the territory of the Apsheronsk region (Colchis Gates). The cultural layer of these places contains traces of ancient trade caravans. Some archaeological items are on display at the Apsheronsk Museum. The ancient Tethys Ocean left its mark on this territory, providing researchers with paleontological material.

Particular attention in the work of the museum is paid to the period of the Great Patriotic War. Active hostilities took place on the territory of the region during the war years.
