Arch of memory of peacekeepers and heroes-liquidators

Арка памяти воинов-миротворцев и героев-ликвидаторов

Routes of tourist excursions in Krasnodar do not pass by the chapel-chapel of the holy great martyr and patron saint of soldiers, Demetrius of Thessaloniki. A small shrine and place of worship for the Orthodox is located in the center of a residential area - on Platanovy Boulevard in the Yubileiny microdistrict of the city. The chapel was built in honor of the servicemen who died in wars, in local conflict situations, during the elimination of the consequences of accidents. Its solemn consecration took place on November 3, 2003.

Later, next to the temple-chapel, a memorial arch was erected, dedicated to the Kuban people - liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, participants in military operations in Abkhazia, Chechnya, Nagorno-Karabakh, South Ossetia and Transnistria, as well as victims of terrorist attacks that took place in Dagestan, Volgodonsk, Buinaksk, Moscow and Budyonnovsk. It is a triumphant white building built in a simple style. Inside the arch there are four memorial plates, on which the dates of the Russian wars and the names of the killed Kuban residents are carved. The opening and lighting ceremony of the arch of memory took place on December 24, 2011.

The arch and the temple together make up the memorial complex. This unique monument is not only a tribute to the memory of all contemporaries who died in the line of military duty in peacetime, but also the embodiment of the history of Krasnodar.
