Dendrological Park "Yuzhniye kultury"

Дендрологический парк «Южные Культуры»

The Dendrological Park "Yuzhniye kultury" is located in the Adler district of Sochi near the left bank of the Mzymta River. The park was laid out in 1910 according to the project of the gardener-decorator A.E. Regel. The park was founded on the lands of the "Sluchaynoye" estate of General D. Drachevsky in 1910-1911. Architect A.E. Regel used a landscape style with the inclusion of regular elements in the form of an extensive parterre in the southern part of the park, which was very typical for the direction of gardening art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The original solution was to use a regular breakdown not near the house, but far from it, in the depths of the park. One of the important elements of the park's composition is the network of paths and paths. Small free paths divide the park into large and small mounds. Plantations in various combinations are placed on the clumps: coniferous and deciduous species of trees and shrubs. Open glades became a place for planting valuable single trees and shrubs: blue fir, Mexican, Atlas cedar, Lawson's cypress, solar cypress, camellias, etc. Clusters of bamboos and palm trees created special exotic corners in the park. The organization of the park's plantations is complemented by decorative reservoirs. To the east of the main alley of the park is an artificial pond with islets and bridges. The second pond, located to the right of the main alley of the park, is formed by an artificial widening of the channel of a stream flowing through the park. In the parterre areas adjacent to the pier of the second pond, lawns are laid out, on which Baroque drawings were created from carpet plants.
