Monument "To the Soldiers-Defenders of the City of Novorossiysk 1942-1943"

Памятник «Воинам-защитникам города Новороссийска 1942–1943 годов»

The massive feat of the defenders of the city of Novorossiysk during the Great Patriotic War is immortalized in the memory of the people. In the place where Svobody street crosses the central artery of the city - Sovetov street and a shady park highway, a majestic monument rises on a spacious square.

The monument was erected in honor of the soldiers of the Red Army, sailors of the Black Sea Fleet and partisans who heroically defended the city and defeated the enemy at the walls of Novorossiysk during the Great Patriotic War.

On the pedestal there is a 13-meter bronze sculptural group. Shoulder to shoulder with the sailor in a single battle impulse, holding the victorious banner, stands an infantryman, expressing the invincible strength of the military community. The sculptural group is complemented by the figure of a fearless partisan girl with a submachine gun over her shoulder.

The sculpture reveals the unyielding will and resilience of the Soviet people, the courage of the heroic defenders of the city, the greatness of their victory over the enemy. The monument was solemnly opened on May 9, 1961; sculptors I. Shmagun, N. Timoshin and architects K. Mikhailov, E. Lashuk worked on it.
