Devichyi Slyozy waterfall

Водопад Девичьи слезы

The waterfall "Devichyi Slyozy" is located immediately behind the village of Chvizhepse, 6 km from the village of Krasnaya Polyana, at the exit from the Adler - Krasnaya Polyana highway. The water of a small stream falls down here from a 13-meter cliff, breaks on stones, and rushes to Mzymta River. Legend says that there was only one house on this site, where a family of shepherds lived. The old men had a daughter, young and beautiful. This girl grazed goats and often went with them high into the mountains. There she took a liking to the mountain spirit and fell in love with him herself. An evil jealous sorceress found out about this. She shouted so that the mountains were shaking, the rivers began to boil, and this cry pulled out by the roots many centuries-old trees: "You must not allow a mortal to love the immortal Spirit! It will never happen while I am the mistress here!" And she decided to destroy the girl, since she was powerless to fight the mountain spirit. She once tracked down a girl and raised her high above the mountain ranges in order to bring her down onto the rocks. The girl began to call her friend, but he hovered over the other end of the Caucasus Mountains and did not hear the calls of his beloved. Then the girl began to ask the sorceress to spare her love, but she was relentless. She was already ready to throw the girl on the sharp rocks, when tears of love splashed from the girl's eyes, and her voice rang along the gorge: "Let me die, but my tears will be paid to you. And for a thousand years, and for two thousand years they will pour from the ledge. And you will not have peace forever for ruined love! " Since then, these girlish tears have been pouring down like a waterfall.
